The Spirit of the Victorian Age

One of our goals at the Aurora Leigh Bed & Breakfast is to give you the opportunity to experience a little bit of the luxury and complexity of the Victorian Age. Yet we also wanted to balance our modern need for contemporary conveniences. So we compromised. We decided to create a contemporary Victorian experience, which would capture the spirit of the age, but would also allow for the inclusion of modern convenience. We chose not to use the elaborate Victorian wallpaper; instead, we chose warm colors reflected in our dozen stained glass windows and painted the walls of each room. We added a couple of bathrooms, but kept two claw foot tubs. We installed wireless internet access and modern heating and cooling, but we selected period antiques to dress up each room.

When you walk through the doors of the Aurora Leigh Bed & Breakfast, you will feel that you have stepped back in time to a place that reflects the spirit of the Victorian era. That is why we chose almost a dozen period pieces and named our rooms after places mentioned in the writings of Victorian or near-Victorian writers. However, to fully appreciate what the Victorian Age meant (and still means), we are reprinting an essay on the Victorian Era, originally published on DreamEssays.com. We encourage you to read The Spirit of the Victorian Era.
